Redefining Cybersecurity Testing:
The Business Case for Early Security Testing in Automotive Cybersecurity
According to the NIST study, "The Economic Impacts of Inadequate Infrastructure for Software Testing," coding errors found in production are 30 times more costly to fix than those identified during development when they are originally created. This highlights the critical importance of early error detection in the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
In compliance with ISO/SAE 21434, penetration testing is typically conducted on the right side of the V-model, after most of the development is complete. However, as security concerns become more prevalent, embedding security measures throughout the SDLC has become a crucial responsibility for development teams. Despite these efforts, even simple coding errors continue to persist in modern applications, exposing organizations to significant vulnerabilities.
To address these ongoing challenges, companies must continuously refine and improve their integration of the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL).
